The Kitchen Theatre

I got involved with the production of Sam Sheppard' Fool for Love running the lights for designer Takeshi Kata and Co Designer Adam Huggard. I later returned to run lights for my friend and great Sound Designer (note I didn't say LD, just kidding, he is good)--for the two Productions running on top of each other, Miss Julie and Girl Gone (about the lives of strippers and the death of one). I had twenty minutes between the end of one show and the start of the other to regel and refocus the lights three times a day.

The Kitchen Theatre was formed many years ago by an ice age. Or by some Ithaca College Students who as legend has it they were standing around in their kitchen talking about starting a theatre that would tackle interesting plays and new works. After many years it has become the proving grounds for many a Ithaca student to hone their skills. It is nestled in a flexible three quarter round house with 30 lights and a booth snuck in a corner. This is where sound mixers learn the art of stopping a tape deck after a cue with out making that click noise of the recorders buttons clicking off, so the audience does not all turn to look. The stage manager who is often the sound person--for space reasons more than money--has to use hand signals to run cues.
