Derby Dinner Playhouse

While I was there I was a capenter and an elecrician for several shows, stage managed two childrenÍs shows and prop mastered three shows. The theater is a full round stage. This theatre is not (or is no longer) equity but was run as if it was. They had an union orchestra. It was a good experience and I worked with a lot of nice people. There were a lot of people who really cared about the craft there.

The Story:

I took the job of sound engineer. The first day of work I was informed that my job had been given to someone's boy friend and that I would be working elsewhere in the theatre. I, taken a little by surprise, looked closer at my contract and sure enough, my job description was vague enough to go from sound guy to carpenter. I did parley it into a props position which allowed me to use my shopping/ procuring skills and learned that job titles aren't always important. (and watch out for vague people and vague contracts)
